Mini PC Server Rack Options: Compact, Fanless Compute

Mini PC Servers for Rack Deployments

A mini PC server rack is a rack-mounted set of small form factor computers that run server workloads in a compact footprint. Each mini PC acts as an independent node. Operators place several units in a 19-inch rack or on a shelf, power them from low-voltage DC adapters, and manage them over the network. This approach suits edge computing, small office servers, digital signage hubs, kiosks, and light virtualization.

Thinvent has mini PCs with Intel Core, Intel Celeron, AMD Ryzen and ARM processors. The Aero series uses Intel Core i3, i5, i7 and Core Ultra 5 processors with 6 to 12 cores. The Treo series uses Intel N5095A and AMD Ryzen 5 7430U processors. The Micro 6 Pro uses an ARM Cortex A55 processor with 4 cores and runs Thinvent's Thinux embedded Linux. Memory ranges from 4 GB to 16 GB, and the models use DDR4 or DDR5 RAM with 128 GB to 512 GB SSD storage. Most models run on 12V or 19V DC adapters, which reduces power draw compared with standard desktop power supplies.

Choose the processor by workload. Core i5 and i7 models with 10 or more cores suit multi-service hosts and containers. Celeron and ARM models suit lightweight tasks such as data collection, gateway functions and kiosk control. Choose the memory and storage by the number of services each node runs. Pick WiFi or dual LAN based on the network design. Dual LAN models suit rack installs that need separate management and data networks.

Operating system options include Windows 11 Pro, Ubuntu Linux and Thinux. Select the operating system that matches the server software in use.
