Yottamaster Dm1 - Fanless Industrial Mini PCs for Edge & IoT

What Is the Yottamaster DM1?

The Yottamaster DM1 is a compact personal cloud storage device (NAS) built around an ARM quad-core Cortex-A55 processor, 1 GB of DDR4 RAM and 8 GB of eMMC flash storage. It accepts a single 2.5" SATA drive over a SATA 3.0 6 Gbps interface, supports up to 8 TB of capacity, and connects over a single 1 GbE network port. Its chassis is aluminium alloy with ABS, and it is aimed at home users who want private, remote-accessible file storage without a subscription cloud service.

How It Differs From a General-Purpose Computer

The DM1 is a purpose-built storage appliance: its hardware and firmware are tuned for file serving, backup and remote access rather than for running desktop applications, databases or industrial control software. That distinction matters when you are specifying hardware for a factory floor, a kiosk or a branch office. A storage appliance gives you a fixed function and a fixed operating environment; an industrial PC or mini PC gives you a general-purpose platform with a standard x86 or ARM compute stack, expandable memory and storage, multiple display outputs, serial ports and a choice of operating system.

Where General-Purpose Industrial PCs Fit

If your requirement is to run software rather than simply store files, the deciding factors are processor class, memory headroom, storage endurance and I/O. An Intel® Core™ i3-1215U with six cores and a 4.4 GHz boost handles multi-tab HMI dashboards, SCADA clients, video decoding, thin-client sessions and light edge analytics comfortably, while 16 GB of DDR4 and a 1 TB SSD remove the memory and capacity ceilings that appliance-class hardware imposes. Fanless industrial designs add wide-temperature tolerance, dust resistance and long service life, which matters in workshops, warehouses, plant rooms and retail back offices where a consumer NAS is not rated for the environment.

Use Cases and Applications

Typical deployments for a fanless industrial mini PC include production-line terminals, machine vision front ends, digital signage players, access-control and time-attendance stations, laboratory instrument controllers, thin-client endpoints for virtual desktop infrastructure, and edge gateways that pre-process sensor data before sending it upstream. Serial-equipped variants with quad DB9 ports are used where legacy RS-232 equipment — PLCs, weighbridges, barcode scanners, medical devices — must be integrated into a modern network. Where the task really is only shared file storage, a dedicated NAS remains a sensible choice; where the task is compute plus connectivity, a general-purpose industrial PC is the correct tool.

Thinvent Products Featuring This Technology

Thinvent builds fanless industrial PCs, mini PCs, thin clients and all-in-one PCs for exactly these workloads. The Thinvent IPC3 series pairs an Intel® Core™ i3-1215U (6 cores, up to 4.4 GHz, 10 MB cache) with 16 GB DDR4 and a 1 TB SSD, and is available with or without quad DB9 serial ports and with a choice of Windows 11 Pro, Windows 11 IoT Value, DOS or Thinux™ embedded Linux. Thinvent thin clients cover VDI and kiosk deployments, while the all-in-one range integrates display and compute in a single panel-mount unit for shop-floor and point-of-service use. Every platform is designed for continuous operation, quiet fanless cooling and straightforward global deployment.
